The Long-Term Effects of Sciatica Pain

The sciatic nerve is a sizable nerve that extends from the lower back down the back of the bilateral legs. You may be experiencing sciatica pain and not be aware of it. Symptoms include:

* Pain that increases in the buttock or either leg when sitting.

* Pain that is shooting in nature which makes standing difficult or an impossibility to stand.

* Burning and tingling sensations in either leg.

* Difficulty moving one’s leg or foot as well as weakness and numbness.

* Consistent pain on one side or in either buttock.

Long-term effects

Left untreated by a professional chiropractor, sciatica pain can lead to a narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back, otherwise known as spinal stenosis. In addition, pain in one’s neck, otherwise known as cervical spinal stenosis, is exceedingly more dangerous as it compresses the spinal cord. Spinal cord stenosis may thus result in severe symptoms, including but certainly not limited to principal body weakness and/or paralysis. Another common cause of sciatica is degenerative disc disease (DJD), which is the breakdown of discs of your spine that are in essence the cushions between your vertebrae that minimize shocks that occur from activity. It is important to note that untreated sciatica pain can lead to permanent nerve damage and possible paralysis. Patients with sciatic pain should ensure their safety as well as reduced risk of paralysis in the future.

The Benefits of Chiropratics after an Automobile Accident

Subsequent to an automobile or motorcycle accident, drivers/operators and/or passengers should recognize that injuries are capable of showing up days, weeks and even months later. Anything from a fender bender to a high speed collision is capable of causing an injury. On the other hand, you know when you have been injured; however, are you aware that you should not put off injuries that do not appear to be very painful? This is a serious mistake that can adversely affect your well being over a period of time.

One of the more common injuries that occur subsequent to a car accident is whiplash. If you recognize or experience symptoms of neck or back pain, decreased or blurry vision, sudden onset of headache, limited range of motion of your extremities, or any joint/muscle stiffness or pain, you should seek care with your chiropractor. In addition, back, neck and extremity pain is not unusual for victims of auto accidents.

Chiropractic Facts You May Not Know

Were you aware that the practice of chiropractic care has been around for thousands of years?  Records from ancient Greece reveal that Hippocrates manipulated the spine to relief patients of pain and discomfort.  What came to be known as chiropractic was also practiced in ancient China.  Here are some other interesting facts as they concern chiropractic care.

  • Physicians use to regard subluxations (out of joint bones, etc.) as beneath their educational prowess in the 1800’s. Therefore, people known as bonesetters performed what was known as “wrench aid,” that is, to put the bone back into place.
  • Every year at Harvard University, real Nobel Laureates hand out what are known as Ig Nobel prizes.  Donald Unger won his Ig Nobel prize in 2009 for his study on knuckle cracking.  For 60 years, Dr. Unger cracked the knuckles on his left hand but not on his right.  The end result?  He never developed arthritis!
  • We only feel approximately 3% of what are nervous system is telling us. Many people go about their activities of daily living with a dysfunctional spine alignment that can lead to major health problems down the road.
  • The official founder of chiropractic was Daniel David Palmer, aka D.D. Palmer, who opened the first school in Davenport, Iowa in 1897. He was briefly incarcerated for doing so and subsequently sold his school to his son, moved west, and opened other schools.  He is the father of chiropractic.
  • Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs because even in the correct dosages they kill over 100,000 patients a year.
